While they are responsible for monitoring and apprehending malicious spirits that threaten the United States, the Ghost Recon soldiers are frequently tasked with shooting a bunch of bad guys in politically unstable circumstances. You'll be able to accompany them to Sri Lanka in Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Predator for PSP, and to Norway and Moscow in Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: No Subtitle for Wii. According to Ubisoft, both games are due this November. Both promise a "true Ghost Recon experience," which implies technologically advanced weaponry, squad-based combat and probably a suitcase that is also a bomb. Ghost Recon Predator (that's the PSP game) will offer customizable squad mates and three-player ad-hoc multiplayer, while the more action-oriented Wii title promises two-player co-op with drop-in play (Ubisoft describes it more interestingly as "Co-op Hot Join"). The Wii's Ghost Recon seems to be quite a departure from other Tom Clancy games, though Ubisoft stresses that you'll still get "high intensity combat, tactical infiltration and WOW moments." That's probably referring to the exclamation, not the loot spilling out of a terrorist's dead body.

Though Star Wars: The Force Unleashed sanctioned the abuse of stormtroopers on your PSP, The Force Unleashed 2 has jettisoned Sony's handheld system before its multiplatform launch on October 26th. According to IGN, LucasArts did not offer an explanation for the late cancellation.

The PSP version of the original game didn't fare too badly with critics, so we're left wondering where the sequel's development took a wrong turn -- assuming it wasn't simply a consideration of profitability on a platform that has been known to struggle with piracy. We'll let you know if we hear anything that more closely resembles an actual reason.

THQ is shrinking the giant men of the UFC down to fit into a handheld system. The publisher announced a PSP version of UFC Undisputed 2010, entering the retail Octagon on September 7. Perhaps what the game needed to hit sales targets was another version.

The portable UFC includes "an unparalleled roster" of over 100 fighters, as well as the option to create your own, with customizable movesets. The PSP release also includes support for Ad-Hoc mode for local multiplayer fightin'. This will cause much less property damage than meeting your friends at Starbucks for a couple of real mixed martial arts matches.

Your next chance to brutally eviscerate mythological beasts without eliciting the concern of your peers will come on November 2, when Ready at Dawn's second handheld Kratosian adventure, God of War: Ghost of Sparta, hits U.S. store shelves. The PlayStation.Blog mentions the game's arrival as "just in time for the holidays" -- we assume they're talking about Thanksgiving, which, much like God of War's ashy protagonist, places a heavy emphasis on carving.

Also announced were the game's pre-order bonuses, which include PSP and PS3 Themes and Avatars, the game's soundtrack, an in-game "Legionnaire Skin" and a video roundtable of the game's creative directors. In addition, a Ghost of Sparta PSP bundle will launch alongside the game, which comes with a red and black PSP-3000, a copy of the game, a download voucher for Chains of Olympus, Kick-Ass on UMD and a 2GB Memory Stick Pro Duo. It is, quite possibly, the most violent thing upon which you could ever spend $199.99.

The latest clip of the PSP's God of War Ghost of Sparta shows protagonist Kratos at his meanest. It reminds me that playing a portable God of War in public leaves you open to some weird looks from people nearby.

We know our dream of playing a video game adaptation of the greatest television show ever will probably never be realized. Still, judging by this trailer for the spiritual successor to the Parasite Eve series, The 3rd Birthday might just be the closest we'll ever get to Quantum Leap: The Game.

Watch as returning protagonist Aya Brea frequently executes her newest power: The ability to psychically leap between allies' bodies, giving her access to their special abilities and weapons. Now, if she had a holographic companion and said "Oh boy" every time she used this power, and was also Scott Bakula, then we'd be all set.

DC Comics Finally Goes Digital The electronic comic book movement gains momentum today, as Batman and Superman publisher DC Comics finally goers digital, offering downloadable comics for the iPad, iPhone, and Sony PSP.

Marvel does it. Image does it. Even Dark Horse has electronic versions of many of their comic books available for purchase online. The one, major holdout has been DC Comics, home of iconic heroes like Batman, Wonder Woman, and Superman, as well as the Wildstorm imprint, which is quickly becoming the go-to label for video game-based books.

Today that changes.

Seemingly out of nowhere, DC Comics is digital, with a wide selection of books ranging from free to $2.99 now available on the iPhone, iPad, and PSP, including a special free 10-page preview of Superman 700 by J. Michael Straczynski and artist Eddy Barrows.

What took them so long?

"At DC Comics, it has been a top priority that DC forges a meaningful, forward-looking digital strategy," said Jim Lee, Co-Publisher, DC Comics. "As both a comic book creator and Co-Publisher, it was incredibly important that our plan includes not only creator incentive payments, but also an innovative component that supports comic shop owners. We see digital as an opportunity to grow our entire business."

While PSP versions of DC Comics will be available directly through the PlayStation Store, iPad and iPhone users will need to download the new DC Comics apps, powered by comiXology, or through the DC-branded store within comiXology itself. A portion of the proceeds of books purchased through comiXology will be reinvested in initiatives to help promote traditional comic book stores.
DC Comics Finally Goes Digital
This is a turning point for electronic comic books. Now that every major and many minor publishers are on board, the business can begin to evolve and mature. Perhaps one day soon we'll see same-day releases in digital and print.

Do you hear that? It's the pata pata of tiny feet, vibrantly dancing along a 2D plane. It's not just the mice you have running around your apartment (you might wanna clean up, amigo), it's a third Patapon game. Sony announced the game alongside the news that 70 PSP games will be released "between now and December."

All pons aside, we're thrilled to hear about another Patapon title. And hey, we'd love to get our hands on it sooner than later, Sony. You meant December 1, right?

Don't be too shocked if your next flight offers you a PSP as part of your in-flight entertainment package. IFE Services has announced a new partnership with SCEA to offer airlines the ability to add custom tailored PSPs to flights. In addition to being "fully certified for use in-flight," the systems will include an extended life battery which offers up to 11 hours of playback -- perfect for lengthy flights. In addition, IFE will offer "comprehensive crew training" for flight attendants of interested airlines.

IFE Services currently works with six airlines, including South African Airlines, making today's announcement perfectly timed for any South African bloggers flying out for upcoming video game conferences.
