Zipper Interactive's latest in the SOCOM series has seen its release delayed into 2011, the developer has confirmed via the franchise's official blog. Having appeared in playable form as early as GDC 2010, SOCOM 4 was scheduled to ship this fall and has been used by Sony as a key "core" title in demoing PlayStation Move.

"While we're certainly aware that you've been looking forward to playing SOCOM 4 this year, we don't want to take any shortcuts. Instead, we want to deliver the best and most immersive SOCOM game we possibly can and we're going to use our extra time to do just that," read the statement, penned typed by Zipper community manager Jeremy Dunham.

SCEA's senior corporate communications director, Patrick Seybold, told Joystiq, "We can confirm that SOCOM 4 will be released in 2011. The team is focusing on additional features which will help to deliver the most compelling and immersion SOCOM experience yet. Please look out for further updates and announcements over the coming months."

Analysts were generally unimpressed with the $150 price tag put on the Kinect hardware -- the consensus has been that Microsoft set the price too high and sales will suffer as a result. But Microsoft group marketing manager Brett Siddons disagrees. Speaking at an Amazon event in the UK, he said that once you "do the maths," Kinect is "very competitively priced."

His argument is that $150 gets you support for two players (six non-active players) and the full Kinect Adventures game, with no other accessories needed. This is compared to PlayStation Move, which comprises the main controller and a demo disc for $50. The "Navigation Controller" is $30 more, and if you want to expand the system to two players, you'll be paying even more. When you look at it that way, according to Siddons, Kinect is priced about the same given the functionality.

Still, even if that $150 buys an experience similar to what's on other consoles, there remains the question of whether or not gamers will want to write that larger check in the first place.

The latest muliplayer patch for Uncharted 2 has been rolling out worldwide over the last hour. Simply known as Title Update 1.09, the auto-update should resolve a number of issues -- including the dreaded "super throw" that allowed Plunder mode treasures to be tossed with superhuman vigor. On top of this, Naughty Dog has made some tweaks to the game's backend, allowing the developer to more easily alter cash amounts for individual playlists on the fly.

Speaking of cash, Naughty Dog is also mixing up the monetary rewards in matches. Cash for individual and kill-based medals in Objective modes will be decreased, while medals directly associated with objectives themselves will soon net you larger wads of cash. Here's how it'll break down:
  • Tip Off – $1,000
  • Captured – $4,000
  • That's Embarrassing – $10,000
  • Protectorate – $2,000
  • No Cigar – $2,000
  • Drop It – $1,000
  • None Shall Pass – $5,000
  • Expansionist – $5,000
Head past the break for the full update notes.

Naughty Dog's "Title Update 1.09" notes:
  • Changes made to multiplayer character skin system to allow for voices to be included with future skins
  • Made changes to character game mechanics to prevent players from using exploits
  • Fixed ability for players to "super throw" the treasure in Plunder matches
  • Cash awarded per kill in Elimination has been increased to $750 per kill
  • Enabled the ability for Naughty Dog to easily alter the amount of cash earned for individual Medals on a playlist or gametype basis and per-kill

Sorry, sorry, we know we should have gotten this up earlier, but even after all these years, Toys R Us' delicious "buy 1, get 1 50% off" sales knock us out. The sale includes all video games except PC games and pre-orders, so don't think you're getting clever by purchasing Fable 3 and Halo: Reach in full now.

This sale only comes around a few times a year, so it's always good to pounce on it if you've been saving your nickels (idiom inflation). Oh, yes, and because it comes up every time: if two games have different values, the discount is applied to the game that costs less.

Trying to log on to the PlayStation Network today? You'll be prompted with yet another mandatory firmware update. According to the PlayStation.Blog, the big new feature added to firmware 3.41 is a new "You May Like" section to the PlayStation Store. And ... that's about it, apparently.

Some commenters have already expressed some frustration with the firmware, which comes less than one month after the last mandatory update: "That's it?" "Why do we need a PS3 update for a store update?" "Would much rather have a search feature for your download list."

While firmware 3.41 is available now, PSP owners will also be able to get into the mandatory update action with firmware 6.31, which improves the "system software stability."

Look, considering Nintendo drew just about every one of its big guns from their respective holsters when it revealed the 3DS lineup during an E3 press conference last month, we don't blame you if this story doesn't thrill you to your core. The company recently filed a set of trademarks relating to software for the three-dimensional device, including "CrossPass," "CrossPass Network," "CrossPass Connection" and "CrossPass Mode." It seems the handheld's always-on Tag mode has been given a much more Google-able moniker.

Nintendo also filed trademarks for "3D Paddleball," "3D Hopper," "Target Shooting" and "3D Challenge" -- all of which were available in tech demo form at E3. Does this mean they could see the light of day when the 3DS gets released next spring? We're not sure, but we wouldn't mind sinking a few more hours mastering the subtleties of Hallway Pong.

The Xbox 360 forecast is absolutely droughtful this week at retail, with the Clash of the Titans theater DVD release tie-in drying up store shelves. Thankfully, the Xbox Live Marketplace is overflowing with new content this week, including today's release of the new Madden demo.

Additionally, DLC for a pool of recent releases -- Alan Wake, Lost Planet 2 and Transformers, to name a few -- flowed out today, and the "Summer of Arcade" shines on tomorrow with Hydro Thunder Hurricane. (Did you read our review yet?) Finally, Borderands' trio of add-ons is on sale through Sunday.

Check out complete details of the week's XBLM content after the break.

If you're anything like us, you've been waiting diligently for the motion controller-enabled version of 2009's Resident Evil 5, hoping for a chance to battle zombies (and explore the additional content) using Sony's PlayStation Move. A recent posting on the PlayStation Blog by Sony's Sid Shuman indicates that only folks who own the Gold Edition of RE5 will be receiving the Move-enabling patch "close to the launch of the PlayStation Move."

"This will only work with RE5 copies labeled 'Gold Edition' -- the original version of RE5 won't be receiving the patch, for technical reasons," Shuman says, additionally noting that the patch itself will become available on PSN "close to the launch of the PlayStation Move."

Not into patches? Too bad! No, no, just joshin' -- apparently all retail versions of RE5's Gold Edition will come with the patch on-disc after Move's official release. Also, you should probably get in on the whole "internet" thing.

Netflix just became a lot easier to use on the PS3. No, you still need a disc (for now), but the application has been stealthily upgraded with the ability to search for and watch videos from the entire Instant library. For example, typing the letter "A" quickly revealed Avatar: The Last Airbender.

Unfortunately, the Xbox Live and Wii versions of Netflix don't appear to have been updated with this feature yet. Xbox owners will have to wait until November.

Yeah, Looks Like NBA Jam Is Coming To The Xbox 360 & PS3What, you don't trust the UnterhaltungssoftwareSelbstkontrolle? Then you'll have to take the ESRB's word instead that NBA Jam is headed to the Xbox 360 & PlayStation 3.

The basketball title, which at the moment is only officially bound for the Nintendo Wii, was earlier this month rated by the USK - Germany's ratings board - for the 360 & PS3. Now that America's Entertainment Software Rating Board has done the same, it's looking increasingly likely that EA Sports' remake of the 1993 classic will indeed be made available for Sony and Microsoft's console.

The only question would be, how much longer would we have to wait for these (likely) superior versions? I mean, I applaud EA's attempts to breathe a little life into the third-party Wii software market, but if I have the choice between NBA Jam on the Wii and NBA Jam in high definition with proper online play on the 360 or PS3, I'll take the latter.
